A little blog love
A few more days into spring training and it's obvious that Danny Knobler is going to be much beloved for his new Tigers Bulletin blog at mlive.com. Sadly, without comments, it'll never have the voice of the fan. But there are some fan efforts out there that I'll have to keep an eye on.

Working on hitting
Or actually, being effective on offense when you're not hitting. See, it seems the Tigers didn't have trouble hitting the ball last year. Scoring runs was a different story. A team that was fourth in batting average (.272) finished 11th in runs.

Cleaning up for spring
Time to refresh things for baseball season. We've got new sections to the blog roll you'll find in the right-hand column, with new sources for baseball. And, of course, some headlines that we've wanted to point to.

Signs of Spring: Sweet Lou
Happy New Year everybody. Major League teams are beginning to trickle in to their spring training locales and their former stars are joining them. Good to see Lou Whitaker reuniting with his old minor league manager in his third spring with the Tigers.

Tigers may have hit bottom
Late summer has not been kind to the Tigers. In September, they have yet to win. They've scored only 10 runs in losing their last eight games.

Good plan gone awry
The news on Troy Percival is not good. Treatment of the elbow expected to finish games will almost certainly keep the 35-year-old reliever out the rest of the season, and a surgical recovery time of 10-12 months wouldn't leave much of next season either.

Changeups, 94 mph and otherwise
Maybe this new bullpen will work out o.k. With people still buzzing about Fernando Rodney's three-inning performance and raving about his changeup, new closer Kyle Farnsworth might be working on one too.

Headed the wrong way?
The figurative second half of the season has not stared well for the Tigers. First, they actually lost to the Royals, who are far and away all alone in last place. But that was only one day. Now they get word that closer Troy Percival might be gone for a while and may even retire.

Last of the All-Star updates
First of all, I'd like to complain about having so much to read. And many topics to post about. I suppose if that's the complaint though, linking to things all over the internet is probably the wrong diversion for my weekends. But I digress. There's some All-Star coverage to take note of.
