Pros make bad Olympians

Haven't posted about the Winter Olympics and here they're almost over. But I had to reference this line from Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star about the ugly showing of the men's hockey team: "The Americans didn't fail to reach the medal round for the fifth time in seven Olympics because Modano and friends had to go to travelocity.com. They failed for a number of other reasons, including the fact they played like a bunch of testosterone-addled cement heads in this quarterfinal game." The Olympics need passion, and these guys, much like the NBA debacle in Athens, just don't have it.

Hoop stars that can’t shoot?

O.k., it's official. Everyone has now written about how the U.S. men's basketball team can't shoot straight. Today's entry comes from the hometown paper hunting down old hometown star Oscar Robertson to pile on his two cents about professional basketball players who disgrace themselves, and now their country on a world stage, with their jump shot.

Eh, it’s just the Olympics

Apparently, there's not as much interest in the Athens Games as one might think. Tickets are still available, demand possibly depressed by worries from terrorism to traffic.

Now these were Games

Our first reader suggestion: AT pointed us to a Washington Post article about the first time Athens hosted Games, 700 B.C.
