We keep building them anyway

Apparently, sports arenas should no longer be considered long-term investments. The current debate is in Seattle, where basketball's (Super)Sonics say that little ol' Key Arena, renovated only 10 years ago, is no longer keeping up with the times.

Zetterberg yes, Datsyuk no

In the strange new world that is professional hockey, Pavel Datsyuk has apparently decided he'd prefer life in Siberia to life in Detroit. Gosh, sounds like a new punchline.

On the dotted line

If it's summer, then athletes must be negotiating contracts. Since everybody but baseball is in some part of their off-season, it heavy free-agent signing time. A reminder about economics

A little tax money doesn't always go far enough when it comes to sports stadiums. Detroit is having a tough time paying for the upkeep on its old baseball stadium. Cincinnati isn't getting as much from its stadium-supporting sales tax bump as it wanted, making it difficult to pay off the $647 million the county borrowed to build two stadiums and a joint parking lot.
