Michigan Football

Time to run for real

Y'know, it's not really football season until it's time for Michigan-Notre Dame. It's fine to have a game, maybe even two, as a tuneup, but once the students start moving in, it's time to bring on a real game. The IndyStar has a preview that focuses on Michigan's newfound running game. It's early, but they point out that U-M is #10 in the nation in rushing, while the Irish are only #73 in stopping the run.

Heading back to football

080906mundy.jpg
Fall practice has started, so maybe we'll resurrect things here and point out some of the football previews. Today's entry: senior safety Ryan Mundy is coming back after missing almost all of last season with a nerve injury. Oh, and there's a note about available tickets (to get Iowa, you have to buy Ball State).

A little blog love

A few more days into spring training and it's obvious that Danny Knobler is going to be much beloved for his new Tigers Bulletin blog at mlive.com. Sadly, without comments, it'll never have the voice of the fan. But there are some fan efforts out there that I'll have to keep an eye on.

Pros make bad Olympians

Haven't posted about the Winter Olympics and here they're almost over. But I had to reference this line from Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star about the ugly showing of the men's hockey team: "The Americans didn't fail to reach the medal round for the fifth time in seven Olympics because Modano and friends had to go to travelocity.com. They failed for a number of other reasons, including the fact they played like a bunch of testosterone-addled cement heads in this quarterfinal game." The Olympics need passion, and these guys, much like the NBA debacle in Athens, just don't have it.

We keep building them anyway

Apparently, sports arenas should no longer be considered long-term investments. The current debate is in Seattle, where basketball's (Super)Sonics say that little ol' Key Arena, renovated only 10 years ago, is no longer keeping up with the times.
