It's a game of tradition-rich programs, a game people have been waiting eight years for, a game that features two coaches blah, blah, blah. It's a December bowl game on cable. But for one team its a step up, a step back toward rebuilding. For the other, its a step backward after some disappointments in an injury-riddled year.

AAN: 10 years later, Michigan returns to Alamo Bowl

The Wolverines last played in the Alamo Bowl after the 1995 season, Lloyd Carr's first as head coach.

"My recollection is that San Antonio is a great city and the players had a great time," said Carr, whose team lost to Texas A&M in that bowl game.

Both teams enter the game 7-4 but from different perspectives. While the Wolverines settled for the Alamo after a 25-21 loss to Ohio State on Nov. 19, Nebraska is entering on a two-game winning streak after edging Kansas State and then whipping Colorado, 30-3, on Nov. 25.

TMD: Varsity to head to San Antonio for bowl (in a bonus, it looks like there are some good comments at the end of this story, which seems to be somewhat of a rarity for the Daily)

In Huskerland, they're already focusing on the recruiting angle:

LJS: Callahan: Alamo is recruiting opportunity

GII: Bowl presents NU recruiting opportunity: Callahan says Nebraska's staff has increased its focus on the Lone Star state
