I’ve given Braylon Edwards some flack for not making a play in come crucial situations. Well, apparently I should back off. He was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year today, leading nine of his teammates onto all-conference teams in voting by the coaches and media.
Mike Hart was the consensus choice for Freshman of the Year after leading the conference in rushing. Classmate Chad Henne got honorable mentions from both panels. Here’s to three more years of those two.
A few other highlights:
- Four of the five offensive linemen gained some sort of mention.
- Eight of the 11 offensive starters earned first or second team honors on the coaches ballot. (Yeah, they didn’t want to try to stop this group.)
- Edwards (2003-04) and Marlin Jackson (2002, 2004) became two-time all-conference first teamers. They are the 94th and 95th players in school history to receive first team honors at least twice during their careers. (That’s a rich history.)
