The growing season is in full swing. There's even some harvesting going on from two of our three planted boxes.

It hit 90 today. As the sun set, we found a honey-hoisin-ginger glaze for the chicken, tossed it on a bed of lettuces from our garden (baby romain, salad bowl and buttercrunch) and served it with a chardonnay-semillon blend with a touch of black currant syrup, known in some circles as "kir." Oh, and I've started a photo blog so maybe I'll post more often. Maybe.

It was a big outdoors weekend for us - the patio furniture came up, the grill came out and the garden is starting to show some progress. Plus, we're really liking how the flox is hanging on. See more photos in the annex.

Took a walk around the yard today. Found a bunch of flowers. The two pear trees, the weeping cherry, the serviceberry and the flox are all blooming up a storm.

Giant zucchini harvest

Weighing in at 1.75 pounds, we plucked this guy out of box #2 tonight. Tomorrow, there will sauteeing. And possibly enough leftover for bread.

First harvest

These pieces of lettuce -- some leafy, some romaine -- are the first edible benefits of our gardening project. They formed the base for tonight's salad.

Backyard update

Our compass plant's first bloom of the year has opened up. It faced the other way last year; I don't know if that means anything. Just behind it, you can see others coming. What you can't see, is there are other stalks developing too. Oh, and our gardening project is taking is final major step.

Four visitors

One morning, a hot air balloon floated over. The next day, we think a hummingbird clearwing moth (and a Japanese beetle) came by the flowers. The next night, giant explosions visited the neighborhood.

Our newest visitors

Sunday strolling around the backyard, we saw some orange butterflies and some very large bees.
