After flying to the Big Island, we took the southern route to Volcano Village and ran across three Hawksbill Turtles sunning themselves on a black sand beach.

By this time, we'd passed through the Kona region, the commercial strips and the southernmost point in the U.S. I forget if this beach held great promise, other than its black sand. But as we walked up, through the wind, we saw three turtles, which we soon learned were rare and not to be disturbed, through photos from 15 feet away were considered acceptable.

And yes, after an extended break, it's time to start posting photos from the other half of our Hawaiian vacation, which, if I'm counting correctly, was now five months ago. Hopefully I get to the next few sets in a timely manner.
