Moving Day

And now, we'll take a short hiatus, pack the computer away and ship everything to the new home. So, no email for a while. Haven't even gotten the high speed signed up for at the new place so who knows what we'll do. Call the new cell. Bug Scott if you don't have it. Cheers. See you again soon.

Who's up for a trip to Vail

Three lines from Mitch Albom's column about the sins of Kobe Bryant:

Yep. It's sure pretty in the mountains in the summer. Get away from that LA heat. Best assignment any court/sports reporter could get. Here's betting the good people of Colorado wish it would go away.

My new favorite tool

Working on a web page? Might I suggest the color slider from MoreCrayons.com. It's a site pushing a new large-yet-friendly pallette with today's monitors in mind. (via an item at Poynter's Design Desk)

Comics catch-up

One thing about long vacations is you can fall behind certain important things. Like reading daily comic strips.
I'm finishing up with the couple weeks by a friend of a friend of mine. While occasionally Michigan-centric, which may cause problems in the wider world of syndication, it's those references that give readers like me a feeling of enjoying the inside joke.

Vacation photo exercise

pigeonsI've got a lot of photos to go through. A rough count of the digitals shows that I came back with 84 images from the Venice leg of the trip, 52 from Florence (odd, especially since that includes Pisa) and 181 from Rome (which includes a side trip to Pompeii). Still got three rolls of film to develop. Maybe that will even things out.
In any case, first I'd like to try a little excercise: How to crop a pigeon photo. Trips to Venice seem to require seeing how many pigeons (and there are probably thousands to choose from) you can get to eat out of your hand or sit on your arm. This is especially interesting when there are really small children involved (no taller than two pigeons) or a teen-age girl prone to screaming (since pigeons don't like suddden movements or screaming). I've got this photo of a girl feeding pigeons in Venice's Piazza San Marco, the city's main square and where most of the pigeons (and tourists) hang out. But how should I crop it? Give me your thoughts.

Back from an Italian holiday

I have returned. There is much to post. Pictures to go through. "Memos" to check and post. (Yes, I wrote an almost daily diary of sorts while abroad. It will not be posted in blog form, but as essays with accompanying pictures.) And the new Blogger system to tweak. (I've been migrated... Must figure out what the title tag can do...)
