Welcome to Rome

Where cell phones and scooters may outnumber people...

San PietroWell, we've arrived in a big city. There's people everywhere, many more lanes on the streets and an actual subway. Not much of one but it's there none the less.

Of course, there's also really old stuff. Buildings, columns, stadia, palaces and such line the streets, some of the ruins dating to before the time of Christ.

After dinner — which was not the best but perfectly serviceable — we took a driving tour of Rome, with stops at St. Peter's Basilia and the Trevi Fountain. Of course, we saw a number of other sites and took some pictures from the bus. We'll see how those turn out.

A lunchtime stop in Orvieto gave us some time to stretch our legs during the drive from Florence. It also provided some lovely views of the Italian countryside and pictures of the valley below after the trip up the cable car. Otherwise, it was just plain hot with very little breeze.
