Friday: Back to the beach

First, some butterflies; later, some rays

A visit to the butterfly farm

The blue ones were fast and didn't sit still long enough

Before returning the truck, we headed down to the butterfly farm at the end of the high-rise hotel area.

The guidebooks suggested going in the morning, and there was plenty of fluttering activity. A short tour provided some basics about caterpillars, mutations and butterflies, but I mostly took pictures. Some settle more than others, but it was neat to look at.

The rest of the day we spent on the beach, doing some more reading this time, but mostly just enjoying the sand and the water.

For dinner, we had made reservations at the hotel's finest restaurant, the Miramar. Although the dining room was the same one we had eaten breakfast in, the mood was different and the food was prepared with care. I had beef strogonoff and Jen selected chicken parmesan, which came with the most interesting corn meal bread. We tasted the hint of corn, but since it was in a triangle shaped block, we had a hard time identifying it at first.

I often have this trouble of remembering what was on the menu accompanying my entree. Perhaps I'll have to start paying more attenting to the side dish descriptions. They are occasionally an interesting part of the meal.

For dessert this evening, I went with a Viennese apple tart and Jen had chocolate delice, a layer cake of mousse with a thin crust. Cappucino for her, espresso for me. All previously paid for as part of the all-inclusive plan.
